Diving into my faves (part II)

Thu May 17, 2007, 11:45 AM
I've been on deviantART for a year and a half now. In that time I managed to give a huge number of faves. Sometimes I'm surprised with what I find in my favorites myself. Anyway - I always get the feeling that the two last faves that are displayed on my page are not nearly enough. There's a lot of deviations that are under appreciated. And there are those that are appreciated just enough, but still I love them so much that I'd like to see them on my front page.

Sure - there are some themes to my faves. There's a whole lot of topics - like cars or skyscrapers - that won't ever make it into my faves. But there are some patterns of things I like. That's why I decided to browse my faves looking for those patterns and to present my faves to you - neatly categorized in themed bundles. I hope you'll like them!

#3 Secrets

There are certain photos and paintings that contain a hidden story. You look at them and you can hardly stop your self - you are so eager to follow the depictured path, meet those fascinating people, hear the stories of their lifes. You'd wish so much to take part in those events, visit those remarkable places, feel the unique atmosphere of the moment.
I feel that those works that I excavated in the depths of my fav collection - that those works are exactly that kind of partly untold stories. They show you their beginning but they don't even suggest the end. It feels good to be able to look into them, like into windows of the lands unknown, and to day dream :)

#4 Summer

Summer. Hot day, a whisper of ripe cereal, high grasses bending gently under warm wind, the smell of meadow herbs, cool, deep shadow of the intensively green trees, cold streams, warm rains and sudden storms.
Orange soda pop, swimming pool, holidays with your parents and sand castles, watermelon juice flowing down your cheek. Flowers, as yellow as Sun, beaches, freckles, ladybugs, colorful caterpillars, sunflower seeds and the smell of ripe tomatos.
Summer is childhood, most of all. It's so easy to forget yourself, when the Earth bestows all of her riches upon us...
So difficult not to jump into the sun-warmed rain puddles :)

Just look at those photos - and say frankly, aren't they the fullest definition of summer?!?

#5 Blue

Symbol of serenity and spirituality, of the soul, magic and infinity, of time and space.
Symbol of the oceanic waves, of air, the Moon, subconciousness and dreams.
Unreal, fantastic color of distance and mist.
Symbol of hope and freedom.
Mostly the livid hue of blue symbolizes cold, cruelty and despair - like Bluebeard from the Charles Perrault tale.
Blue is also longing. Blue is melancholy.
For the ancient Egiptians it was the symbol of infinity, related to the gods of the Moon.
In the East, it protected from "the evil eye".
Symbol of mourning in many countries.
(based on "Symbolic Dictionary" by Wladyslaw Kopalinski)

The use of blue in drawings, paintings and photos - is the source of additional symbolic meanings that expands the primal meaning of the image.

Diving into my faves (part I)

#1: Nature photos with interesting focus
Those really move me because of their interesting perspective and focus that makes them more than an average nature photo. The way they were taken makes them look as if they were in motion. And that's the thing that defines nature: endless motion and becoming in the streams of time. Look at those... they were taken out of that stream.

#2: Trees and forests
I love trees. And there's nothing that I love more than forest. But - annoyingly - there seem to be not many things that are harder to take a decent photo of than forest and trees. And I'm not only talking about technical skills of the photographer, quality of the equipment and the knowledge about photography. Because it's all about taking a photo that really moves you, not just a pretty picture with trees. Best pictures are taken when the spirit of the forest talks to the photographer - but even then, it's still not a easy thing and no success is guaranteed. Those are the photos that, in my opinion, manage to capture the soul of the forest.

Master of Arts ;)

Sun Oct 8, 2006, 6:08 AM
I graduated collage and, with a master of arts degree. in a cheerful and festive mood I started a year of an additional education.
Meanwhile, slowly, one little step by another - the winter approaches - a time, when cameras tend to hibernate while knitting needles, yarns and such wake up to life. With time, I'm certain, the theme of my gallery will change a little. After two years of absence artisan crafts deviations will begin to show up in it.
I hope, that those of you, who watch my gallery mostly for my photos - will be able to sustain this period of winter creative unrest up until the return of spring - when, I promise, the camera will get his attention back :)

Once again, thank you for all the comments, favs, devwatches and the great support. I'm truly sorry I couldn't respont to all of them directly, but I was short of time recently - including the sleeping time.
